Empowering Resilience: Speaking at the “Showing Up – Perspectives on Cancer” Event in Scranton, PA

Over the weekend, I embarked on a journey to Scranton, PA, where I had the privilege of speaking at the second annual “Showing Up – Perspectives on Cancer” event. My company has proudly sponsored this event for the past two years. What made this year even more special was the presence of my loyal canine companion, Pearl, who served as our event’s endearing mascot!

This exceptional gathering was thoughtfully orchestrated by Tim Sohn, whom I met on LinkedIn. “Showing Up” provides a nurturing and inclusive haven for cancer patients, survivors, and their steadfast supporters, serving as a conduit to vital resources for healing, hope, and resilience.

In addition to this annual event, Tim also hosts a weekly livestream series where he engages in candid interviews with cancer patients and caregivers. For those interested in tuning in, you can catch these insightful conversations either on Tim’s LinkedIn profile or his YouTube channel.

My talk centered on the transformative power of fortifying our resilience by strengthening our mental fitness. Bolstering mental fitness enables cancer patients and caregivers to navigate the emotional rollercoaster of a cancer journey, reduce stress, refine communication skills, advocate for themselves, cultivate a robust support network, and establish healthy boundaries.

The act of sharing one’s personal cancer patient or caregiving narrative serves as a potent catalyst for fostering empathy, extending support, and deepening understanding within our community. Furthermore, it contributes significantly to the ongoing fight against this formidable disease.

By sharing our stories, we process our own experiences and become integral contributors to the larger dialogue surrounding cancer care and prevention. Together, we continue to advance our collective effort to combat cancer on all fronts.

Please follow Tim and join us next year for this amazing event.

ONWARD!
