When I retired in 2019, I had grand visions of a life filled with rest, relaxation, and living on my own terms. However, I was in for a surprise. Instead of the tranquil existence I imagined, I found myself busier than ever. It was a wake-up call.
Determined to find answers, I embarked on a journey of self-discovery, diving deep into the realm of “inner work.” What I uncovered was eye-opening. The busyness I experienced was merely a symptom of my inability to effectively deal with unpleasant and painful emotions—many of which remained hidden in my subconscious.
Over the past four years, I’ve had the privilege of learning from various coaches who have guided me along this transformative path. Today, I want to share some key concepts that helped me tremendously. Each person’s journey is unique, but perhaps you’ll resonate with these insights as well.
I discovered that unprocessed feelings tend to “go to the basement and lift weights,” as Stephenie Zamora eloquently put it on the Onward Podcast.
We all possess a life force called Chi, which flows through everything, including us. Unfortunately, this energy can become blocked by the uncomfortable, unpleasant, and painful emotions we carry, leading to stress, anxiety, and other negative states. However, when we clear these blockages, we open ourselves to experience true joy, as Michael Singer illuminates.
Mental fitness plays a pivotal role in achieving peak performance, well-being, and improved relationships. Strengthening my own mental fitness has been instrumental in clearing those energy blockages that hindered my growth.
Additionally, by taking the Saboteur Assessment, I discovered that my primary Saboteur is the Restless — an explanation for my perpetual busyness upon retirement. Unearthing your own Saboteurs can be a profound revelation.
Of all the coaching programs I’ve experienced, the Positive Intelligence®️ Program has been the most effective. In fact, I am now a Positive Intelligence®️ Certified Coach and completed a six-month Mastery Program in March 2023.
Initially, after retiring from a 34-year career with the Navy, I wanted to distance myself as far as possible from government work, seeking a stress-free existence. However, through my personal growth journey, I learned that it was my thoughts about government work—not the work itself—that caused my stress.
Empowered by newfound insights and armed with tools to clear my energy blockages, process emotions, and challenge my Saboteur-generated thoughts, I’ve ventured back into government work. Today, I proudly serve as the U.S. Government Account Director for Positive Intelligence®️.
Government organizations and employees face unique challenges, from adapting to changing priorities and managing high workloads to dealing with budget constraints. That’s why I’m excited about the opportunity to introduce the transformative Positive Intelligence®️ Program to various government organizations.
It’s immensely rewarding to offer a program that I so desperately needed during my own public service career—a program that simply didn’t exist back then.
If you work in public service or know someone who does, I encourage you to share the following link with them. It provides valuable information on how they can bring this life-changing program to their organization:
