Embracing Simplicity: Finding Freedom in a Complex World

In a world that often seems chaotic and overwhelming, the concept of simplicity offers us a way to find balance, clarity, and freedom.

I recently read Richard Rohr’s Simplicity – The Freedom of Letting Go. Rohr is a renowned spiritual teacher and author and, in this book, he explores the transformative power of simplicity, inviting us to embrace its wisdom and integrate it into our lives.

Simplicity can help us find balance and freedom. It’s not about having the least amount of things or being bored. It’s actually about looking at life in a different way. Simplicity helps us focus on what is important and let go of things that don’t really matter.

Simplicity is not just about what we have; it’s also about who we are inside. Sometimes, we care too much about what other people think or we want more and more things. Simplicity teaches us to slow down, pay attention to what makes us happy, and think about what truly matters in our hearts.

When we embrace simplicity, we learn to let go of things we don’t need. Our worth doesn’t come from the things we have, or from our job, but from the kind of person, we are.

Simplicity helps us find calmness and peace inside. It’s like having a special place in our hearts where we can rest and feel better. When we take time to be quiet and think about what’s important to us, we can feel refreshed and inspired. Have you found this special place inside you? It’s there.

As I’ve shared before, slowing down and finding that calmness and peace inside me didn’t come easily when I retired, as I thought it would. I worked with coaches and I’ve learned how to rest, to relax, to be alone with my thoughts. If you struggle with this, know you’re not alone and know you can learn how. It’s a strength to ask for help.

Simplicity isn’t just about ourselves; it’s also about how we treat others and our planet. By taking care of the Earth, using less energy, and treating everyone fairly, we can make the world a better place for everyone.

To sum it up, simplicity is a way of living that helps us find happiness and peace. It’s about appreciating what we have, being ourselves, and caring for others and the world around us.

As we practice simplicity we can find joy in the simple things and make our lives and the world a better place.

I find going to the mountains and connecting with nature helps me center myself, feel joy, and integrate simplicity into my life.

I hope you enjoy this recent sunset photo I took from an overlook on Skyline Drive in Virginia.

Embracing simplicity helps us create lives we LOVE living! How are you practicing simplicity? I’d love to hear from you.
