Are you listening to your intuition? As I become more aware through strengthening my mental fitness, I’m noticing my intuition more often.
I also noticed recently that I ignored my intuition. In this case, it was not a big deal but it got me wondering how often I don’t listen.
Here’s what happened. I was driving 4 hours to visit my son and I didn’t leave until 3 in the afternoon. I stopped at 7-11 for hot tea and a snack. My intuition told me to get a lid for my tea but I didn’t see one. My hip was hurting and I was tired and went to look for a snack.
Once again, my intuition told me to get a lid for my cup of hot tea. Once again, I ignored it.
Once in the car, I put my cup (without a lid) in the cup holder. I opened the peanut butter cups. The smell of peanut butter and chocolate filled the air. I positioned them on the armrest for easy access while I was driving.
As I drove out of the parking lot, I hit a bump and my tea spilled. I then remembered that my intuition had told me, several times, to get a lid.
Once on the highway, I went to grab a delicious peanut butter cup. They weren’t on the armrest.
My mouth was watering. I was really hungry. I pulled over to the side of the road and looked on the floor, in between the seats, under the seats. NO peanut butter cups.
Annoyed I got back on the road and took a sip of my tea which had cooled off enough to drink. Interesting….the orange tea had a hint of chocolate….and peanut butter.
Was I imagining this?
No, I was not. There, in the bottom of my cup were two melted peanut butter cups. I should have listened to my intuition and used a lid!
On the bright side, I didn’t need the calories and I made a point to pay more attention to my intuition.
Hearing your intuition can be a deeply personal experience, but there are a few general steps you can take to become more attuned to your inner voice:
- Create space for quiet reflection: One of the most important things you can do to hear your intuition is to create a space for quiet reflection. This might involve meditation, spending time in nature, or simply sitting in silence for a few minutes each day.
- Listen to your body: Your intuition often communicates through physical sensations in your body. Pay attention to any tightness, tingling, or discomfort you feel, and ask yourself what your body might be trying to tell you.
- Trust your first instinct: When you’re faced with a decision, try to trust your first instinct. This initial reaction often comes from a deeper, more intuitive part of your mind than your conscious thoughts.
- Pay attention to your dreams: Your dreams can be a powerful source of intuition. Keep a dream journal and try to analyze the symbols and messages that come up in your dreams.
- Practice mindfulness: Mindfulness involves being present at the moment and paying attention to your thoughts and feelings without judgment. By practicing mindfulness regularly, you can become more attuned to your intuition and learn to distinguish it from other thoughts and emotions.
Remember, hearing your intuition is a skill that takes time and practice to develop. Be patient with yourself and trust that your inner voice will become clearer and more reliable with time.
Can you think of a time when you ignored your intuition? Or perhaps a time you listened to it and were glad you did. I’d love to hear from you!
